Volkswagen Crafter

For the launch of the new Volkswagen Crafter - the most fuel efficient large van in Britain, we created a campaign that playfully made the point that only fuel pumps are likely to be unhappy about its arrival.

In collaboration with ‘Aardman animation’ we developed a character based on a diesel forecourt pump. The pump screen and hosing formed the face and arms, and through animation we were able to achieve a wide range of emotions. The animation focused on the fuel pump as the Crafter vehicle drove past multiple times, every time the pump characters expression changed, starting with frustration all the way to complete despair.

This integrated campaign ran across multiple digital and print channels including full page display takeovers on ‘Vantrader.co.uk’, ‘The Mirror’ and ‘The Sun Football’.
